Under the direction of the Supervisor, Forestry the Lead Hand, Forestry is responsible for performing, assigning and monitoring work. Work is primarily focused on forestry, but not limited to tree planting and maintenance and participating in parks and property maintenance. Assigning and monitoring requires directing and guiding the work of assigned Operators and seasonal/contract staff. Work also involves assisting with the development and execution of the annual work plan and master schedule (daily, monthly, yearly).
Credentials: Post-secondary diploma in Forestry along with significant demonstrated experience in forestry practices, urban arboriculture. Certification by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) as an Arborist or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified chain saw operator, forklift operator, front end loader operator, propane handling, and elevated work platform certification. CPR and First Aid Certification, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Health & Safety Training including responsibilities to oversee staff as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Class “D” Driver’s with air brake endorsement in good standing. Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Municipality is required.
