Roads Supervisor

Reporting to the Public Works Manager, the Roads Supervisor coordinates the construction, maintenance, administration and monitoring of roads, bridges, sidewalks, signage, storm water management, equipment and maintenance of parks, and cemeteries for the Municipality. Plans and recommends yearly and long-term construction for projects. Responds to emergency call-outs and attends emergency repair job sites. Oversees and works with contractors. Operates various machinery (backhoes, trucks, etc.). Supervises working Forepersons or Lead Hands. Recommends action on hiring, discipline, dismissal, wage rates and other human resource issues for Roads staff. Schedules Public Works staff, assigning work and following up to monitor performance and ensure deadlines are met. Inspects work and ensures that health and safety procedures are followed and ensures that job sites are clean. Documents information related to maintenance and repairs and prepares a variety of reports. Researches information and prepares cost estimates for road repairs. Attends PW Committee of Council. Prepares monthly and year end reports by project. Compiles and verifies staff time sheets, detailing work conducted. Responds to complaints, identifies problems, and takes corrective actions. Performs some of the duties of the PW Manager in his/her absence.
Credentials: Grade 12 Diploma. Certified Roads Superintendent Certificate.
