Recreation Facility Operator

Reporting to a Manager or Supervisor of Facility Operations, the Facility Operator is part of a front-line team responsible for operating, maintaining, and housekeeping of facilities including recreation facilities, outdoor skating rinks, arenas, swimming pools, interior spaces and exterior amenities in accordance with policies, procedures, legislative requirements and industry best practices. Assists with scheduling facility use and day to day operations. Operates and maintains a variety of equipment (condensers, compressors, ice resurfacers, edgers, scrubbers, etc.). Regulates gauges and switches on dehumidifier heat pumps. Books use of recreation facilities. Collects fees at entrance, records and keeps monies safe. Ensures all facilities are appropriately prepared and conditioned for each rental. Provides general maintenance (painting, mechanical repairs, minor electrical repair, plumbing repair, etc.) and cleaning of facilities including arenas and halls. Responds to emergency situations. Ensures that staff maintain equipment in good condition and ensures that health and safety procedures are followed. Supervises staff and volunteers and trains staff on the day-to-day operations of the recreation facilities.

Credentials: Completion of a Secondary School Diploma; Refrigeration “B” Licence from the Technical Standards & Safety Association (TSSA); Certified Ice Technician (CIT) or knowledge and experience in ice making operations or Arena Maintenance- Zamboni (Ice Resurfacer) Certification; Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification from a recognized professional organization or college combined with demonstrated related experience; Arena Operator Level 2; Standard First Aid and CPR-C, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Health & Safety including responsibilities to oversee casual/seasonal staff as per the Ontario Health and Safety Act. A satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required due to the nature of the contacts of this position. Class G Driver’s licence in good standing.
