Library Assistant

Reports to a more senior Library Official, the Library Assistant is a front-line customer service position, responsible for direct delivery of library services to the community, including circulation of materials, inquiries, resources, providing advisory services, technical help, and assistance of patrons in a pleasant and effective manner, according to established procedures and service guidelines. Assists with rotation of materials (DVDs/new books). Responds to complaints, identifies problems, and consults with appropriate staff for corrective actions and solutions. Monitors and reports health and safety issues. Performs basic computer maintenance and troubleshooting. Instructs the public and staff in the use of the catalogue and the library’s other online resources (e.g., website, databases). Responsible for displays, library pamphlets and bookmarks. Updates social media sites as required. Assists with programming (organize, market, and implement).
Credentials: Library technician diploma or SOLS certification or working towards certification. High school diploma or SOLS certificate. Vulnerable sectors screening.
