Reporting to a more senior Public Works Official, Facility Superintendent/Manager is responsible for the administration, operation, and maintenance of the recreation facilities. Books, schedules, and operates all arenas. Prepares, implements, and monitors the draft budget. Prepares contracts and reports long term contracts to senior management or Council before documents are signed. Coordinates the use of all Municipality controlled facilities with recreational user groups. Oversees the scheduling of recreational programs. Negotiates contracts for event bookings in accordance with the policies of the Municipality. Attends and reports monthly to the Recreation Advisory Board(s) on program developments and facility use. Supervises staff and volunteers. Orients, trains, develops, disciplines and recommends hiring and termination of staff. Schedules staff. Ensures that staff maintain equipment in good condition and ensures that work sites are maintained in a clean and safe manner and that Health and Safety practices are implemented and followed. Conducts workplace inspections for Health and Safety issues. Responds to emergency call-outs, travels to problem sites, determines work to be done and assigns work.
Credentials: Post-secondary diploma in recreation facility management or related equivalent plus progressive, directly related experience, preferably in a municipal environment. Refrigeration “B” Licence from the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA) and certified pool operator from the National Swimming Pool Foundation (NSPF) preferred. Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing and reliable vehicle for use on corporate. Due to the responsibilities of this position a Police Information Check satisfactory to the Municipality is required.
