Reporting to a senior Public Works official, the Environment Officer manages the environmental portfolio and corporate health and safety. Implements, oversees, monitors and reports on the corporate climate action plan. Ensures corporate alignment between the climate action plan, asset management plan and various corporate procedures. Develops, implements, and oversees waste disposal, recycling, and diversion programs. Develops long-term waste management solutions. Monitors the municipality’s activities and applies the Access Soil Regulation and Standard Operating Procedures. Oversees environmental operations at department patrol garages. Supervises operation & maintenance of the scales and its software. Organizes ongoing training and professional development of the landfill attendants. Supervises landfill attendants. Collaborates with local municipalities regarding waste management disposal and diversion programs. Promotes municipal and county waste management programs and educate residents about them. Manages hazardous and special waste programs. Prepares and submits funding applications and answer inquiries from the ministry regarding the submissions. Prepares waste management budget recommendation. Monitors drinking water license(s) and permits. Monitors the environmental compliance approvals for the municipal storm water management systems and monitors for opportunities to implement low impact development stormwater management strategies. Monitors and reviews the Ministry’s Standard Operating Policy for Sewage Works. Establishes corporate health and safety programs. Develops and monitors health and safety policies, procedures and processes including action plans and safe work practices. Prepares Health and Safety documents and forms. Investigates Health and Safety incidents/accidents and develops corrective actions. Develops and maintains municipal standard operating procedures.
