Director of Legal Services/Municipal Solicitor

Responsible for overall provision of legal services to Council and the Senior Leadership Team including policy advice and recommendations on legislation, provincial government initiatives, the role of local government and a wide range of issues affecting general business. Provides leadership to Boards and agencies and the management of the Municipality in the areas of municipal law, land use planning, real estate, corporate and commercial transactions, administrative law and employment/labour relations. Ensures that statutory obligations are met relative to building inspections, permit insurance and bylaw enforcement. Provides legal representation at hearings before Administrative Tribunals and in the Courts. Prepares legal opinions and drafts and reviews bylaws and contracts.

Credentials: Qualified to practice law in the Province of Ontario, i.e., Member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
