Reporting to the Archivist, the Assistant Archivist is the first point of contact for the Archives, and assists people who require services from the Archives. This position is responsible for accessioning, cataloguing, and storing of archival material; assisting municipal officials, elected officials, historians, historical groups, writers and journalists, students, teachers and public to access the archives; completing reference searches; providing onsite guidance to archival material; creating reference materials and publications; assisting staff with exhibit and display planning and educational programming; processing financial receipts; and writing of articles specific to culture and heritage.
Credentials: A three-year museum or library/records management college diploma, or an acceptable equivalent. Working knowledge of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy legislation as well as relevant aspects of the Municipal Act. The position must have a working knowledge of isolation room operations; knowledge and skills in film and digital photography as well as Photoshop, and digital scanning; and a knowledge of Canadian History, archives office administration and/or records management.
